Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are common, and many cause no symptoms at all. Regular STI screening is a simple and confidential part of looking after your sexual health.
At Bronte Family Doctors, we offer STI screening in a confidential, non-judgemental and inclusive environment.
You may want to have an STI screen if you:
Your GP will talk with you about which tests are appropriate for you. Routine screening may include chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV and syphilis.
Where clinically appropriate, we can also arrange testing for other infections such as Mycoplasma genitalium and Ureaplasma. These tests are not routinely recommended for everyone, and your GP can discuss whether they are appropriate for you.
Urine samples and swabs can be collected at the practice, including self-collected swabs where appropriate.
If blood tests are recommended, we will provide you with a pathology request form to take to a pathology collection centre, as we do not currently collect blood samples onsite.
We can also discuss contraception, cervical screening, PrEP, vaccinations and other aspects of sexual health during your appointment.
Sexual health is a normal part of healthcare. Our doctors are happy to discuss your concerns openly and confidentially, whatever your age, gender, sexuality or relationship status.
